Scholarship Description: Computer Science Phd spine is a very complex structure and remarkable: it consists of stacks of bone vertebrae separated by intervertebral discs of cartilage that acts as an elastic hinge. This is an open question how such a functional structure of complex forms during embryonic development. http://thescholarshipprogramme.com Your mechanical position is part of the recently awarded (Vici-award) multi-disciplinary research program on self-organization structured connective tissue. The Computer Science Phd main hypothesis is that mechanical signals direct the activities of cells as well as assembly and alignment of extracellular matrix molecules. The aim of this project is to measure the PhD physical cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions by optical tweazers; to explain the process of extra-cellular matrix assembly itself with microscopy, and to measure the mechanical properties of cells and extracellular matrix components by microrheology. Other Computer Science Phd positions in this program will address the biology of spinal cord development and computational modeling of self-assembly in connective tissue.
