VU University Medical Center Offers Doctorate Position Physics of Spine Development

Computer Science Phd Candidates we are looking for a new must pass from the MSc program in physics, biochemistry, medical physics, or highly related field. Other requirements are: Knowledge and experience in soft matter physics or materials science, Additional experience with cells or biomolecules is a plus; strong affinity for multidisciplinary research; Capacity to write and communicate fluently in English.

Open Scholarship for International Students: None

Scholarship Description: Computer Science Phd spine is a very complex structure and remarkable: it consists of stacks of bone vertebrae separated by intervertebral discs of cartilage that acts as an elastic hinge. This is an open question how such a functional structure of complex forms during embryonic development. It seems that physical processes play an important role, because the architecture of both the vertebral bone and intervertebral discs appear to optimally structured to handle specific loads. http://www.callforpapersinfo.com
http://thescholarshipprogramme.com Your mechanical position is part of the recently awarded (Vici-award) multi-disciplinary research program on self-organization
structured connective tissue. The Computer Science Phd main hypothesis is that mechanical signals direct the activities of cells as well as assembly and alignment of extracellular matrix molecules. The aim of this project is to measure the PhD physical cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions by optical tweazers; to explain the process of extra-cellular matrix assembly itself with microscopy, and to measure the mechanical properties of cells and extracellular matrix components by microrheology. Other Computer Science Phd positions in this program will address the biology of spinal cord development and computational modeling of self-assembly in connective tissue.

Computer Science PhD Scholarship in modeling

The Computer Science PhD stochastic optimization model Wilmar (see here) is developed for the modeling of energy markets with significant variations in the production of renewable energy. It has been on several international projects such as wind integration study used the European integration of wind energy (EIFS). Wilmar model has a resolution time, but it is also important to model and analyze the top-down regulation of the electricity in the period and the related markets for intra-hour.

The
Computer Science PhD theme of the thesis is to provide a model for the energy markets within an hour before developing with a resolution of 5 minutes, which can interact with the Wilmar model. The model should be able to deal with flexible units of electricity as electricity storage, electric cars and electric heat pumps. A similar model is developed energinet.dk already in partnership with the Danish TSO, and the student will use the existing work on this subject as a starting point. The Computer Science PhD scholarship is funded by and will be part of a research project called the start-up to the activation of electricity demand are flexible iPower.

Qualifications

The applicants should have:

a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering
Strong mathematical background
Preferably experience within operation research e.g. optimization models
Preferably knowledge on energy systems and technologies
Preferably knowledge on C# or Java

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to the ability to communicate at all levels in English and grades.
