Computer Science PhD Scholarship in modeling

The Computer Science PhD stochastic optimization model Wilmar (see here) is developed for the modeling of energy markets with significant variations in the production of renewable energy. It has been on several international projects such as wind integration study used the European integration of wind energy (EIFS). Wilmar model has a resolution time, but it is also important to model and analyze the top-down regulation of the electricity in the period and the related markets for intra-hour.

The
Computer Science PhD theme of the thesis is to provide a model for the energy markets within an hour before developing with a resolution of 5 minutes, which can interact with the Wilmar model. The model should be able to deal with flexible units of electricity as electricity storage, electric cars and electric heat pumps. A similar model is developed energinet.dk already in partnership with the Danish TSO, and the student will use the existing work on this subject as a starting point. The Computer Science PhD scholarship is funded by and will be part of a research project called the start-up to the activation of electricity demand are flexible iPower.

Qualifications

The applicants should have:

a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering
Strong mathematical background
Preferably experience within operation research e.g. optimization models
Preferably knowledge on energy systems and technologies
Preferably knowledge on C# or Java

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to the ability to communicate at all levels in English and grades.

We offer
We offer a challenging career with the possibility to play an active role in the development of the new program. Intelligent energy systems are high on the political agenda which is also reflected in the funding and other resources enjoyed by the group.
